Talkin' About Shaft

February 03, 2020

The 1971 classic film Shaft, starring Richard Roundtree, brought the cocky and charismatic private detective John Shaft into the public consciousness. Since then, there have been four sequels and plenty of homages in other mediums. As a result, Shaft remains a part of popular culture. On February 29 (Leap Day!), you will have the unique opportunity to see a screening of the film accompanied by a live orchestral performance by Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber. Plus, the screening will take place at the historic and world-famous Apollo Theater, which is only about 20 minutes from the Broadway Plaza Hotel. Conductor Greg Tate will lead the musicians through all of the biggest hits from the film including the award-winning theme song. In the almost 40 years since it was originally released, Shaft has become an important cultural artifact, so you will not want to miss your chance to see this one of a kind screening
